President's Report - March 2023

Angela Rainey | Published on 3/2/2023
Dear League,

It’s Women’s History month, let’s celebrate the League of Women Voters. Since 1920 we have been an activist, a grassroots organization whose leaders believed that voters should play a critical role in democracy.

The Women’s Suffrage movement is central to the identity of the League of Women Voters. For the League, Women’s History Month is both an opportunity to celebrate the contributions of women throughout history, and a time to reflect on our origin story.

Learn about the successes and struggles of the US suffragists across the country and right here in Tarrant County, virtually at 6:30 PM on March 9, 2023, as immediate past president and local historian Peggy Hendon presents how the leadership of Clota Boykin impacted Tarrant County and women’s efforts to gain the right to vote.

Speaking of the right to vote, Voter Services is already hard at work preparing for the May 6th Elections. Educating ourselves and other voters on the important issues of the day. We are committed to voter registration and voter education, this was one of the driving forces behind the formation of the League of Women Voters 110 years ago. We have several great opportunities this month to register and educate citizens.

Candidate Forums allow voters to hear directly from people running for local offices. If you can’t attend in person, videos of the Forums will be available on our Website and Facebook page.

Get involved! We need people to help with candidate forums. Voter Services always welcomes volunteers. We need volunteers to observe the County Commissioners Court, School Board, and City Council meetings.
